Going one step beyond materials
By 2050, 70% of the world population is expected to be living in cities and urban areas - urbanisation is defining our global reality. Investing in new buildings built with sustainability in mind impacts not only on life quality but also the more pressing priority - climate change. WICONA has set an ambitious Net Zero target. Read on to discover what it is and how close the company is to achieving it.
Already, WICONA´s products of new generation benefit from 75% recycled and 95% recyclable content. This not only reduces our carbon footprint but also, reduces the embodied carbon of future buildings.
Committed to using resources sustainably and circularly, WICONA recycles end-of-life aluminium doors, windows and curtain walling to produce our prime quality aluminium, Hydro CIRCAL, which is made with a minimum of 75% of recycled post-consumer-scrap. It has one of the smallest CO2 footprint worldwide: around 2.0 kg CO2 (1.5–2.3 kg CO2) per kilo of aluminium – 6 times or 84% less than the worldwide average for primary extraction.
As a global industry leader and part of Hydro group, we take our responsiblity to cut our CO2 emissions in half by 2025. We have the knowledge, the possibilities and resources to strive towards 100% circularity and empowering 10.000 people with education and skills by 2025. Together, we’ll build a world beyond tomorrow. Therefore, we follow our holistic approach to reduce our carbon emissions in several areas.
